I spent about 10 months working in an aluminum foundry in 2014 (I think). One of my duties (for about 6-8 weeks) was making the cores that formed the shape of the parts we would be pouring. To do this, I would fill a mold with sand and pump it full of a gas called Sulfer Dioxide to make the sand harden. The slightest whiff of this stuff made it feel like my sinuses had been dropped into a frying pan. It felt like the front of my brain was cooking.
I turn 30 this Saturday. I had never had a nosebleed in my life until I started working with this gas. After that, I had 3 in a week. To this day, I get them almost every month, give or take a week.
It is worth mentioning that I currently work in a pressurized, climate controlled building so it’s pretty dry in there.
Should I be concerned?
